Just Let the Kids Play
The Front Range Futsal League intends to provide a significantly different culture for youth sports than is found in much of Colorado youth soccer. The referees will be an important ingredient in developing and maintaining that culture (“the way WE do things HERE”, in the Front Range Futsal League.)

Futsal is a player’s game, and the Front Range Futsal League is designed to “Just Let the Kids Play” . The purpose of the Leagueis to provide a venue for the development of skillful soccer players through the game of futsal. To maximize both the attainment of that goal and the enjoyment of the players, our referees will be asked to adopt the highest standards with regard to protecting the safety of the players, maintaining fair play and promoting a proactive form of sportsmanship known as “Honoring the Game” . In particular, tackles from behind, shirt pulling, dissent and failure to give ground on restarts will be dealt with swiftly and surely. Red and yellow cards will result in a loss of team points in league or tournament standings.

This idea of Honoring the Game is taken from FRFL partner the “Positive Coaching Alliance”. Here competition that is “fierce but friendly” is encouraged, while sportsmanship is defined in terms of what you will do, not what you won’t. It is based on the principle that each participant develop and demonstrate a respect for the ROOTS of the sport: The Rules, and one’s Opponents, Officials, Teammates and Selves.

Laws of the Game

FIFA's Laws of the Game for Futsal (see: “Futsal Rules” ) are written to encourage creative, highly skilled, fast play by taking the physical contact aspect out of the game. In addition to all the outdoor laws of the game regarding physical contact, the Futsal Laws Of The Game prohibit most contact, including shoulder charges or sliding tackles closer than one meter to an opponent. Players play in the Futsal League to enhance their skills, speed of play and their tactical concept of the game. The Laws of the Game punish teams that play a highly physical style, so teams are encouraged to play without the type of contact that results in injuries.

The Front Range Futsal League has adopted a slightly modified version of the FIFA Laws of the Game for Futsal. Referees will need basic USSF Referee certification and must be familiar with the “FRFL Modified Rules”. Formal certification of referees for Futsal with the U.S. Futsal Federation is in the planning stages.
